NaNoWriMo Day 8
Welcome to my little experiment, where I lift the curtain on my writing process during NaNoWriMo 2023 in an effort to feel less alone. If you’re also doing NaNoWriMo, feel free to add me as a buddy!
daily summary 📅
Night writing is the worst. If I had my way, I would only write when there is daylight outside, but alas, that was not meant to be today. I treated myself to Korean food with
for lunch, then high-tailed it home to meet the furnace maintenance people, only to be slapped with the probability that I have to replace our heating system. What. But that’s what writing is, I guess—writing in less than ideal conditions, either physically or mentally. What matters is that the work is getting done. I rewrote a chapter today and I count that as a success.
daily process ⏱️
9:37AM. Had therapy this morning. Now to decompress. 🫠
9:43AM. Scheduled lunch at the Korean food place with Lemon, but I have to remember to be home by 4:00PM for the furnace inspection. Let’s see if I can get some words in before I have to leave (What is with my terrible handwriting today?).
10:01AM. I’m too jazzed on caffeine write now (heh, “right” now) to properly focus and apparently control the fine motor muscles in my hand and arm.
Okay, now to rewrite chapter 2.
3:59PM. Had lunch with Lemon and then had to rush back home to let the furnace inspector inside the house. I’m too caffeinated from my second drink to properly focus for words today, but hopefully I can ease my way into it and then go pick up the bois from daycare. Looks like today is another night writing day, boo.
7:10PM. Home ownership is such a scam, I swear to god. The problem with having purchased an old home in a state that does not require inspections before you sell it is that you find out a year into buying it that you have to replace both A/C unit, and then two years into home ownership, you need to replace the 30+ year old furnace that is literally RUSTING TO PIECES for a cool $10,000. Who has that kind of money lying around???? It’s already prohibitively expensive to buy a house, let alone own one.
Anyway, picked up the bois from daycare, fed them, walked them, and managed (somehow) to get in 661 words.
7:58PM. Ugh, a lot of these words are repeats from the previous version but WHATEVER. No deleting during NaNoWriMo! All words are valid!
Anyway, we’re about halfway through the word count for tonight. 838 words. Night writing still sucks.
9:23PM. 2058 words. *collapses*
That’s Day 8 of NaNoWriMo done! How about y’all? Any successes? Failures?
