NaNoWriMo Day 11
Welcome to my little experiment, where I lift the curtain on my writing process during NaNoWriMo 2023 in an effort to feel less alone. If you’re also doing NaNoWriMo, feel free to add me as a buddy!
daily summary 📅
Well. At least I’m caught up on my word count anyway. The words are terrible, and the writing flow even worse. I feel like I properly ADHD hyper-fixated my way through the first week of NaNoWriMo, but now that the hyper-fixation has passed, all that is left is tedium. Wah. But as they say, BICHOK—Butt in Chair, Hands on Keyboard. We still have a little over halfway to go and we’re stuck in the dreaded middle.
daily process ⏱️
6:45PM. I hate that I can’t seem to get into writing. This morning we had the furnace people in for an estimate. Managed to get 487 words. The bois have been fed, let outside, let back inside, my own sushi dinner consumed, and now everyone is back for the evening. I’m about 25% through the word count for the day. Let’s see if I can do one focus interval and get to 50%.
7:14PM. 964 words. The words are terrible, but they exist. The point is not to have a good draft; it’s to have a draft.
7:47PM. 1109 words. I might be able to push through and finish this day’s word count if I just knew the order of things and the necessary transitions. Maybe. I need to talk this out to myself. [redacted word vomit]
JUST WRITE, JJ. JUST WRITE, THEN YOU CAN REVERSE OUTLINE THE PROBLEMS AWAY LATER AND LESS AWKWARDLY!!!!
8:24PM. 1327 words. I am so close. I can do it. I can finish up this chapter (finally) and get a start on the next one before calling it quits for the night.
8:39PM. 1547 WORDS. THESE LAST COUPLE OF HUNDRED WORDS IS LIKE PULLING TEETH OH MY GOD. COME ON, JJ, YOU CAN DO IT. YOU CAN DO IT.
8:55PM. 1708 WORDS. Well, if the words suck, at least we are caught up, despite 2 days of not hitting 1667 words or more.
And now to shut off my brain with some more Dollhouse episodes.
That’s Day 11 of NaNoWriMo done! How about y’all? Any successes? Failures?
