July felt like half a month. Where did it go? Oh right, it got lost in the haze that was Hamilton.

Yes, I went to go see Hamilton. July is my birthday month, and as a gift to myself, I bought myself tickets...8 months ago...using Christmas present money. I've been dying to see it since I first heard the cast album back in September. I only just missed seeing Lin-Manuel Miranda, Philippa Soo, and Leslie Odom, Jr. in the title roles (they left on my birthday, how dare they!), but I got to see nearly everyone else in the original cast, including and especially Daveed Diggs (hnnnnngh) as the Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson. It is every bit as excellent as people say it is, and more. I still have a Hamilton hangover.

In addition to Hamilton, I went to New York to catch up with friends and family. I still think of New York as home; I spent my teens and the entirety of my twenties there, and it's as much part of my DNA as my hometown of Los Angeles. I miss it terribly; it's only circum…
