creativity breeds creativity: why taking up another artistic pursuit is good for you

Remember when I used to send newsletters at the beginning of each month? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, she said, weeping into her cold, stale coffee.

I am currently deep, deep, deep in the weeds of revising Shadowsong, so from sunup to sundown, it is nothing but spending time with Liesl et al. My poor partner; he's hardly seen me this month and he's a doctor. Bear is usually the one spending all his hours at the hospital while I pine away for his company at home, but I am presently spending most of my waking hours at my local coffeeshop trying to wrangle this book into shape.

Yet despite spending all this time writing, I have also made a conscious decision to dedicate some time to other creative pursuits. I think a large part of my nervous breakdown and burnout earlier this year was due to the fact that I had no other art…
