Three days later, when a message arrived from Corliss hinting at good news, Sumire knew her period of grace had come to an end. She must face the decision she would make, although just what decision was she was still unsure. She had consented to another examination with Dr Shimura, and had nearly pissed herself with fear when he drew close. Mrs Morita had been by her side, holding her hand, soothing her, but still she felt every violation of those impersonal masculine hands upon her person. She held her body rigid as she screamed in her mind, knowing she was making things worse, that she was making things hurt even more, but she could no more prevent herself from tightening, from shying away from his touch, than she could stop breathing.
